Geraldine S. Stockwell

Geraldine Stockwell, age 90, of Garretson, died on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Monday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Geraldine was born on July 20, 1920 near Hetland, South Dakota to Carl and Selma (Olson) Colby. She attended country school and graduated from Hetland High School in 1938. She then attended General Beadle College and began teaching in rural schools in Kingsbury County. In 1943, she moved to Sioux Falls and began working in the office of the Nash-Finch Company.

Geraldine married Harry Stockwell in the Lake Whitewood Church near Arlington on April 6, 1947. The couple lived in Sioux Falls until moving to a farm along the Split Rock Creek just north of Garretson in 1952. The couple farmed until 1986 at which time they moved into Garretson. Harry died on April 8, 2009. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Pat (Darrell) Hellie, Beresford and Randy (Heather) Stockwell, Rochester, Minnesota; a grandson, Kyle (fiancé Stephanie Thompson) Hellie, Aurora, Colorado; sisters-in-law: Ruby Meester, Ellsworth, Minnesota, Delpha Stockwell, Sioux Falls; a brother-in-law, Rex Stockwell, Lennox and many nieces and nephews.
