William "Bill" F. Bunde, age 87, of Lyons, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 3, 2019 at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Burial will be in the West Nidaros Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Saturday at the church.

Bill was born on July 3, 1931, in Sioux Falls to Finkle and Otilda (Lein) Bunde. He grew up in Lyons, attended Lyons High School and South Dakota State College. On September 19, 1953, Bill married Delores Jean McGee at First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls. The couple settled on the Ole T. Bunde Homestead west of Lyons. Bill was passionate about his work as a farmer and livestock feeder.  He also served his country for 20 years as part of the United States Air Force, South Dakota Air National Guard and South Dakota Army National Guard.

Bill was a member of West Nidaros Church and the American Legion. His life could be summed up in three words…home, work, and family. He had a heart of gold and was a tender man.  Bill and Delores, who he always referred to as “his girlfriend”, shared 63 years of marriage.  Pastimes evolved as the years went by. Bill enjoyed: ballroom dancing, engineering machinery to work as needed, and woodworking. In the later years he built jewelry boxes for his granddaughters and baptism boxes and rocking chairs for his great grandchildren.   He always had a dog as a companion and he liked to have other pets on the farm including exotic chickens and other birds.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sons and their spouses, Terry and Deb Bunde, Lyons; Tim and Ann Bunde, Hartford; Todd and Joni Bunde, Lyons; twelve grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; his sister, Norma Dell Sandhurst and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; sons, David and Troy; and his parents.
