Vera Mae Sagness-Young

Vera Mae Sagness-Young, age 66, of rural Garretson, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at Ava's House in Sioux Falls. A memorial visitation will be held from 1-3:00 PM Saturday, May 7, 2022, with a prayer service beginning at 2:30 PM, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Interment will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Garretson. Following the burial there will be a luncheon at East Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Baltic.

Vera Mae was born on July 23, 1955, to Vernon and Karin (Hanson) Sagness. She grew up on the family farm, where she lived most of her life, and graduated from Baltic High School in 1973. She worked for years on the farm milking cows and later helped take care of her parents. She also worked for Ravens for 10 years. Vera was active in many things. She was an active member of the Baltic American Legion Auxiliary, helped homeless veteran, and worked at the Baltic Food Bank. In the past she was also helped maintain the St Paul Lutheran Cemetery and was on the East Nidaros Lutheran Church council. Vera was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was an avid family and church historian. She loved her pets (like Ruthie, Koko, and Lily to name a few), the farm, camping, her family, and especially her grandson Quinn.

Vera Mae is survived by her husband, Larry Young of Garretson; son, John Fisher of Dell Rapids; grandson, Quinn; siblings: Virgil (Chris) Sagness, and Vivi Ann (Dan) Jacobs; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Karin, and brothers, Verlin and Vernon, Jr.
