Vera Mae Johnson, 91, of rural Baltic passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Dells Area Hospital.
Visitation with the family present will be Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 5-7:00 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. There will be a private family burial in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
Vera Mae was born May 30, 1927 to Berg and Stella (Pederson) Holbeck on a farm southwest of Colman, she was one of seven children. She attended Ash Grove Country School and graduated from Colman High School in 1945. She was baptized and confirmed at Colman Lutheran Church.
On September 12, 1945 she was united in marriage to Russell Johnson of Baltic and lived on the same farm since 1945.
She was active in the South Dakota Centennial Wagon Train, SD Draft Horse and Mule Association and the Dakota Harness Club. In later years she enjoyed going to and teaching bible studies and visiting nursing homes. She loved seeing the flowers grow and watching birds (not so much the squirrels).
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Robert (Julie) Johnson, Chester, Warren (Trish) Johnson, Baltic and Beverly O’Donnell, Baltic; six grandchildren: Stacy Emery, Russ Johnson, Tracy Vigna, Karmen Johnson, Michael Johnson, and James Johnson; twelve great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; sisters: Arla Reynolds, of Virginia, and Shirley Goehrs, Dell Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russ; granddaughter, Kimberly Johnson; son in law, Pat O’Donnell; and her siblings, Wilbur, Stanley, Donny and Leona.
