Tena Marie Vander Plaats, 97, of Colton passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Dells Area Hospital.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM Friday, August 3, 2018 at Faith Community Church, Colton. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery.
Tena was born April 20, 1921 to parents Marjorie (Boellard) and John Van Heerde in Colton, SD. She attended country schools in the Colton area. She married Andrew Vander Plaats on Feb 12, 1941. They farmed near Colton until they retired and moved into Colton in 1987.
Tena loved sewing, embroidery, baking and have friends over for coffee. She always made sure the neighbor’s cats had plenty to eat. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. Tena loved her family and spending time with all of them was very important.
Grateful for having shared her life are her 3 daughters: Nancy (Glen) Swier, Colton, SD, Joyce (Will) Meisenhelder, Hartford, SD, and Debbie (Ken) Mader, Colton, SD. 7 Grandchildren, Cindy Oberg, Holly Egger, Tammy Barg, Michelle Dickerson, Nathan Meisenhelder, Torey Lutz and Lindsay Koepp. 7 Great Grandchildren, Zach & Sarah Dickerson, Lane, Kaden & Gage Egger, Greta Lutz and Faith Koepp.
She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
