Tanya was born on June 30, 1950, in Sioux Falls to Delvin and Delores (Daggett) Hartenhoff. She grew up in the Sioux Falls and Renner area. She attended Renberg School and graduated from Baltic High School in 1968. On June 15, 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, Jimmie Vollan, at Renner Lutheran Church. Tanya later earned an associate degree from Sioux Falls College and worked for the post office and First National Bank. In 1978, Jimmie started operating Midway Station and in 1988, Jimmie and Tanya purchased Wold Oil Company which became Vollan Oil Company. Starting as a part-time accountant, she eventually became a critical part of the day-to-day operations of the business.
Tanya found many interests throughout her life which included: sewing, water skiing, reading books, hiking, camping, gardening, spending time with her family and friends, and studying her Bible. She was an avid marathon runner (and especially loved the celebratory ice cream post-race) and could be seen running on the county and township roads around her home. She enjoyed woodworking and refinished much of the floors and furniture in her old country farmhouse. Tanya was always willing to teach others about her faith and was a longtime Sunday school teacher at East Nidaros.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmie, Garretson; children: Melanie (Travis) Vlasman, Yankton and their children, Connor and Tia, and Bruce (Pamela) Vollan, Baltic, and their children, Kennedy, Maiya, and Grady; siblings: Susie (J.O.) Olson, Brandon, Barb (Roger) Leeds, Sioux Falls, Patty (Dan) Frantz, Baltic, and Mike Schmitz, Renner; sister-in-law, Joanie Hartenhoff; and many other relatives and friends.
