Justin Lee Nelson passed away suddenly at the age of 24. Staff Sergeant Nelson was a full time member of the United States Air Force.  His end of watch was on July 7 th , 2018.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, July 16, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, Colton.  Visitation will be from 2-4:00 PM Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Chapel, Colton.  Burial with Military Honors will be in the Colton Cemetery.

Justin was born on October 6 th , 1993 to Nicole Osterloh and Eric Nelson.

He graduated from Gayville-Volin High School in 2012. He was active in all sports and was a Boys State Alum. Justin was passionate about many things including his career in the Air Force, the Dallas Cowboys, hunting, fishing, playing cards and video games, and of course spending time with his family and friends.

Justin’s decision to join the military was a true turning point in his life. His love for serving his country was second only to his love of family. Justin was initially stationed at RAF Lakenheath Base in England followed by a stint in Africa. He came back to the United States and was stationed at Andrew’s Air Force Base in Maryland where he rose through the ranks to Staff Sergeant. Justin took online classes while serving and obtained an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Justin continued taking classes working towards his Degree in Security Management maintaining a GPA of 4.0.

Justin is survived by his mother Nicole (Craig) Osterloh of Marvin, SD. His father Eric (Mandi) Nelson and brother Carter of Fargo, ND. His sister Kelsey (Keifer) Severson and their son Grayson Jay of Sioux Falls, SD. His Aunt Sarah (Ethan) Smith and their children Trey and Madilyn of Yankton, SD. His Uncle CJ (Kay) Pond of Gainsville, VA. Maternal grandmother Valeria Pond of Dell Rapids, SD. Paternal grandparents Robert and JoAnn Nelson of Yankton, SD formerly of Colton, SD. As well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins and loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Charles Pond and aunt Laureen Pond. Paternal great grandparents Carol and Ralph Kenobbie and Helen and Donald Nelson.
