Shirley Ellen Goehrs, 79, of Baltic, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, at the Dells Area Hospital in Dell Rapids. Memorial visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. Interment will be at a later date in the Colman Cemetery.

Shirley was born on July 14, 1939 to Berg and Stella (Pedersen) Holbeck in rural Moody County, South Dakota. She graduated from Chester High School and the Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in June 1960. She worked in Kotzebue, Alaska before settling in Washington State where she worked for the VA for many years.

Shirley was united in marriage to Harold Goehrs on February 14, 1970. She went on to attend Spokane Falls Community College and earned an Associates in Applied Science and an Associates in Arts in 1981. She then worked for ITRON in Washington and traveled to many countries for work. Harold and Shirley moved to Baltic in 1992 and remained there until moving to Dell Rapids in 2012. Shirley’s compassion was a love for her dogs. She was a member of the American Kennel Club for many years. She also loved roses and pasques and her yard was always full of flowers.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sister, Arla Reynolds of Salem, Virginia; and a sister-in-law, Nova Like of Luverne, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents; brothers: Wilbur, Stanley, and Donnie; and sisters: Vera Mae Johnson and Leona Holbeck.
