Shirley Rae Egger was born to parents Fred and Sylvia (Thompson) Mews on March 8, 1941.  She grew up on a farm in the Colton community and graduated from Colton High School in 1959.  She married Duane H. Egger on August 15, 1959 at First Lutheran Church in Colton.

As a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, she was active as a Sunday school teacher and officer of the ladies’ group.  She also helped to serve many of the funerals at the church.

For several years, Shirley ran a daycare in her home caring for the children that became very dear to her.  Later she worked at the Colton Assisted Living where she cared for several of the residents that also became very dear to her. During Duane’s 31 years on the Colton Fire Department, Shirley was an active and supportive member of the Colton Firefighter’s Auxiliary.

Shirley enjoyed sewing, crafting, quilting, playing cards, cooking, and watching her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and other events.  Shirley always wanted to help others first.  She was truly a loving and caring person.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Mark (Leslie) Egger, Pipestone, MN; Mistie (Jon) Hachfeld, Shoreview, MN; Wade (Holly) Egger, Colton; Jason Egger, Colton; grandchildren, Alyssa (Brian) Siemonsma, Lane, Kaden, & Gage Egger, Nathan Staab, Brittany (Nick) Triche, Cole (Marquette) Nordmeyer; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Oxley, a brother, Roger (Pat) Mews, sisters in law, Karyl Mews and Mary Bassett.
