Ronald J. Hanson, 80 of Sioux Falls formerly of Renner passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Lennox Good Samaritan Home.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Renner Lutheran Church, Renner, SD Visitation will be from 4-7:00 PM Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Pioneer Cemetery, rural Baltic.
Ronald James Hanson was born September 8, 1938 to Elmer and Ruby (Trygstad) Hanson at Brookings. He was raised and educated in Brookings. He joined the United States Air Force in 1956 and served until 1962. He married his first wife Sue on October 25, 1958. They later divorced. He married Gloria Ward April 1, 1978 at Renner. They spent 40 years together until his health started to fail. He then became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Lennox, where he passed away February 8, 2019 at the age of 80.
He was a Sioux Falls Police Officer for 27 years. He also held various part time jobs as security and drove truck for Midwest Coast.
He enjoyed camping, telling stories, his horses, cats and most of all his family. In recent years he enjoyed spending time with his great granddaughters. He loved having a cup of coffee and visiting with friends. He enjoyed most of his life living on his acreage near Renner and taking pride in the way it looked. He could fix anything and loved tinkering with his tractor.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Gloria, Sioux Falls; Children, Charles (Christy) Hanson, Trent; Robert Hanson, Flandreau; Anita (Rick) Klitzke, White; stepson, Kendall (Jodi) Ward, Brandon; seven grandchildren Justin (Jamie) Klitzke, Talihina, OK, Miranda (Ben) Deutz, Lake Benton, MN, James Hanson, Sioux Falls, Courtney Hanson, Chelsie Hanson and Crystal Hanson, all of Trent, and Dalton Ward, North Carolina; nine great grandchildren Halle, Emilee, Lily Ana, Adrianna, Alexander, Creighton, Hannah, Bryson and Alani; sister, Janet (Dick) Brandsma, Green Bay, WI; sister in law, Marge Hanson, St. David, AZ and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Lewis, brother, David, and a grandson, Jordon.
