Roger A. Christenson, 77, of Sioux Falls passed away on Sunday, February 3 rd in hospice care at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls. Funeral Services will be held at Renner Lutheran Church on Sunday, February 10 th , at 1:00 p.m.; visitation will be held on Saturday, February 9 th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the church.
Roger was born on June 16 th , 1941 in Sioux Falls. He graduated from Brandon Valley High School in 1959 and then started working for John Morrell & Co shortly thereafter for the next 51 years. He was a boy scout leader and was an active member of the Renner Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school. Roger was a member of the Renner Fire Department for 51 years and Fire Chief for 28 of those years. He was a player, board member, umpire, and groundskeeper for the Renner Monarchs baseball team. Roger received the Pioneer Award for helping establish The American Legion Post 307 and was Constable of Mapleton Township. He loved to golf and spent a lot of time on the links with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Lois of 56 years; three children: Robin and husband John Willhoit, Scott Christenson, and Amy Anderson. Also survived by five grandchildren: Nikki Willhoit (Austin), Brittany (Nick) Doherty, Tyler Anderson (Taylin), Emily Anderson (Jaden), and Matthew Anderson; and one great-grandchild: Aria Ann Marie Doherty.
