Roger Lorrin Tiahrt, age 76, of Renner, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021, at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 PM Friday, January 8, 2021, at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. The service will be livestreamed at the Minnehaha Funeral Home & Cremation Services Facebook page. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic. The public is welcome to attend and masks are required at the funeral and visitation.
Roger was born on February 16, 1944, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls to Elmer and Huldah (Gortmaker) Tiahrt. He grew up on an acreage outside of Bridgewater and graduated from Canistota High School in 1962. He joined the Air National Guard in 1964 and served as a weapons release noncommissioned officer until his retirement in 1986. Roger was married to Carole (Witkop) Bauer and together they had three children.
Roger worked at Morrels and then began his career as a lineman with NSP and running his own business Dakota Tree Nursery. He retired from NSP/Xcel in 2009 after 44 years. In his younger years, he drag raced at Thunder Valley Speedway. Roger enjoyed going to his Las Vegas home in the winter, camping, and watching TV.
Roger is survived by his children: Tim (Stacy) Tiahrt, Jen (Weldon Jr.) Phillips, and Mark (Tiffany) Tiahrt; grandchildren: Ava, Hailey and Broghan Tiahrt, and Reagan and Brooke Tiahrt; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Marlene Hartz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Craig Tiahrt, and sister-in-law Peggy Tiahrt.
