Bob was born January 3, 1943, to parents Selmer “Sam” and Dagmar (Ausan) Tidemann in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up on the farm that was homesteaded by his grandfather, Sven Tidemann. He lived there until he and Margaret built a new home on the homestead in 2012. He graduated from Baltic High School and attended South Dakota State College for one year. He joined the Army Reserve and served for 3 years.
Bob married Margaret Krogstad on September 8, 1963, at the Willow Creek Lutheran Church, Dell Rapids, SD. They had three sons, Dale, Wayne, and Steven.
When Bob was seven years old, his father died. He learned how to farm from his Uncle Len. After his one year of college, he stayed home to farm the land and raise sheep. He became a weekend farmer when he began working as a guard at the SD State Penitentiary in 1967. He managed the prison farm until his retirement in 1995. After his retirement from the penitentiary, he took a job as a courier, which he loved because he could visit with people at every stop.
Bob’s faith was very important to him. He loved his family, friends and having fun. Some of his favorite things were farming, riding his lawn mower, playing board games with family, playing cards, attending the Krogstad family reunion, drinking coffee, and eating ice cream.
Bob was a member of the West Nidaros Lutheran Church, Crooks, SD, where he served as co-head usher for 30 years. He served on both the Pioneer Cemetery board and the West Nidaros Cemetery board for many years. Bob was a member of the Norse Glee Club and the Nordic Hall Board.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Margaret, sons, Dale (Toni) of Brookings, Wayne (Anita) of Rapid City, Steven of Baltic. Grandchildren Alyssa (Michael Josephson), Milwaukee, WI., Austin, Ames, IA., Jack, Sam, and Josi, Rapid City, Brendan (Shelby), and Jayda (Sam Muston), Baltic.
