Robert Allen Carlson

Robert Allen Carlson passed away on December 4, 2023, at Gillette, WY following a valiant battle with cancer. Bob was well loved by family and friends and was a valued employee of NAPA Auto Parts for 46 years. Funeral services for Bob and his dad will begin at 10:30 AM Thursday, May 23, 2024, at West Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Crooks. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, at the church.

Robert was born on October 11, 1955, in Mitchell, SD to Robert and Margaret (Herman) Carlson.  He grew up in Alexandria, SD where he was joined by two younger siblings.  Robert graduated from Alexandria High School and found early employment at NAPA in Mitchell, SD.  He soon relocated to Gillette to continue his career at NAPA.

Robert’s NAPA career was recognized in their national publication when he retired.  NAPA managers said he was a customer favorite who had the right answers and knew where to find everything.  He was known for his knowledge of Ford vehicles with Mustangs being his passion.  He owned a number which he often raced and took to car shows as a member of Campbell County Classics and Customs Car Club.

He is survived by his sons Mike Jonnassen (Ada), Casper, WY; Bobby (Angie), Houston, TX; and Camren (Brooklin), Gillette, WY; brother Kevin, Portland, OR; sister Jody Strand (Wade), Mitchell, SD; father Robert (Gail), Lyons, SD; five grandsons; and two nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother and maternal and paternal grandparents.
