Richard “Dick” Sorenson, 85 of Brandon died Friday, April 07, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Canton. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Brandon Lutheran Church, Brandon. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.
Richard was born May 30, 1931 at the Moe Hospital in Sioux Falls and was adopted at three days old by Albert and Velma Sorenson. He grew up in Ramona, South Dakota and moved with his parents to Sioux Falls in 1942.
He served in the United States Marine Corps in 1952. He married Joanne Roberts August 26, 1961 in Sioux Falls. He worked for McKennan Hospital and National Bank of South Dakota in the maintenance department. They moved to Brandon in 1993. Joanne passed away December 26, 2010.
Dick was a member of Brandon Lutheran Church, Valley Springs American Legion and the Sioux Falls DAV.
Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Randy (Elaine) Sorenson, Sioux Falls; Rickie (Kazumi) Sorenson, Williamsburg, VA; Ross Sorenson, Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Taylor and Alexis; two great grandchildren, Jackson and Kinsley; a sister, Verda Chapiewsky, Bangor, WI; and a brother, Jim Randolph, Abilene, TX.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne, adoptive parents, and a daughter, Wendy.
