Patricia Nancy “Pat” Buechler (Nelson) was born May 12, 1941, to Mabel (Rehn) and Melvin Nelson in Sioux Falls, SD.  She was raised in rural Crooks, SD where she attended Foster Elementary School and graduated from Lyons High School in 1959.  She was baptized and raised in faith and confirmed at Benton Lutheran Church, Crooks, SD.

After graduation, Pat moved to Sioux Falls and worked at Brown Drug, where she met and married Roger Buechler in 1965.  Pat adored and raised her daughters, Rachelle (1966) and Roxanne (1969).

Pat worked many different jobs, where she met many lifelong friends and blossomed into the “people person” she was.  Pat advanced her education at Nettleton Business College and started her job at Western Surety (CNA Surety) where she retired in 2007.

Pat took great joy in the simple pleasures of life.  She loved the beauty of nature and flowers.  She enjoyed gardening and raised beautiful African Violets.  She was a fabulous baker and in her early years, she always had a freezer full of Crazy Cake Cupcakes and cookies.  There wasn’t a pie she couldn’t make from scratch, and she baked many batches of brownies she so often would give away to the people who helped her or treats for her co-workers.

Pat was a master at crocheting, making many doilies, afghans, and baby blankets.  She crocheted thousands of butterfly magnets and found great joy in giving away to just about anyone.

Pat enjoyed reading, her exercise group and helping at her church.  She was not one who would sit around.  She purchased her fixer upper home and loved the time she spent creating her beautiful quaint space she called home for 30 years.  Beyond her hobbies, Pat loved the color Red, she loved yellow and red roses and there wasn’t a pansy that didn’t catch her eye.  Beyond all of that, Pat’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.  She would drop whatever she was doing to have a cup of coffee and a sweet roll or piece of pie with them.

She loved long conversations and would spend a lot of time catching up and re-connecting on the phone.  She enjoyed all the cards and games of dominos with her cousins and friends.

Pat was proud of her roots in Crooks and Sioux Falls and enjoyed car rides where she knew just about everything in the area.  Her love of her heritage and incredible memory of history will be greatly missed.

Pat adored her 5 grandchildren, which were her pride and joy.

It was the “people” that made Pat’s heart so full.  There wasn’t a person she wasn’t willing to help.  She cared big.  “People over possessions” she would say.

Grateful for sharing her life are her loving daughters, Rachelle (Rick) Muir of Rochester Hills, MI and Roxanne (Darin) Harr of Sioux Falls, SD; 5 grandchildren, Brennan Muir of Long Beach, CA, Alyvia Muir of Rochester Hills, MI, Amy, Allison and Ashley Harr all of Sioux Falls; adoring sisters, Phyllis Neuroth of Van Meter, IA and Charlynn Streif of Boone, IA; nephew Troy, nieces, Tamra, Trisha, Tiffany and Andrea; as well as many great nieces and nephews and her many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel (1970) and Melvin (1982), beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends, Donva, Delpha and Shirley.
