VIEW SERVICE FOLDER

Oliver Burton Rollag, 96, of Beaver Creek, Minnesota passed away at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne, Minnesota on Thursday, June 20, 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Palisade Lutheran Church, rural Rock County, Minnesota.  Burial will precede the service at West Palisade Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Oliver Burton Rollag was born to Oscar and Hilda (Halverson) Rollag on a farm near Booge, South Dakota.  He graduated from Valley Springs High School in 1940 and later served in the United States Navy at the end of World War II.

On May 30, 1948 he married Arlene Carlson at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church near Valley Springs.  They lived in Sioux Falls where he worked for John Morrell & Co.  In 1952, Oliver and Arlene moved to rural Beaver Creek, where he began his farming career.  Even when he was no longer actively farming, Oliver continued to help his son on the family farm.  He also faithfully maintained a very large garden, the produce of which he readily shared with family and friends.

Oliver was baptized and confirmed at Palisade Lutheran Church where he became a lifelong member.

Grateful for having shared his life are Arlene, his wife of 71 years, and his children, Diane Peterson, Hallock, Minnesota, Carlene (Pat) Lawler, Zumbrota, Minnesota, Janice Rollag, Farmington, Minnesota and Lyle (Sharil) Rollag, Beaver Creek, Minnesota. He was also loved by nine grandchildren, Laura (Tim) Linder, Beth (Jeff) Jiskra, Anna (Dalton Little) Peterson, Molly Lawler, Katie Lawler, Berik Kallevig, Thomas Rollag, Alaina Rollag, and Sean Rollag, as well as six great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Doris (Kermit) Rye, sisters in law, Lottie Rollag and Karen Rollag and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers: Howard, Milton, Roger, Lester and Glenn.

Memorials may be directed to the Palisade Cemetery Association.

Though his death was not a tragedy, but instead the completion of a long and meaningful life, his passing will be mourned deeply by family and friends.
