Navis Jerome Dybedahl was born on February 28, 1937, to parents Alfred and Clara (Berg) Dybedahl on the family farm.
Navis went to the Hanson Country School in his early years and then to Baltic School, graduating in 1955. Navis enrolled in the Navy and was commissioned on December 6, 1955. He served in the Navy for 2 years, working as a boiler room operator, first on the USS Helena and then the USS Los Angeles, mainly in the South Pacific. When Navis' service in the Navy was completed, he returned home and married Melva Gregg on March 22, 1958, in Baltic. They resided on the Dybedahl farmstead, 1/2 mile south of his parent’s farm. He worked for Buskerud Construction from April 1997 to May 2006. He retired in September 2012 after suffering a heart attack. Navis went to Canada fishing for a week with friends and relatives for many years. Navis and Melva took their children to the Black Hills of South Dakota on vacation, making many fond memories. He also enjoyed ice fishing and 4-wheeling, both in the Black Hills and around the area.
