Myrtle Mildred Vangsnes, age 105, died on 4/20/2021, at Willow Gardens in Marion, Iowa.
Minnehaha Funeral Home in Baltic, SD will be in charge of the graveside service and inurnment on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at East Nidaros Cemetery in Baltic, SD.
Myrtle was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Sioux Falls, SD to Amund and Ingeborg Vangsnes. After graduation from high school in Baltic, SD, she attended Augustana School of Nursing in Chicago, IL. She worked as an obstetrical and infant nurse at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL. After moving back to South Dakota, Myrtle worked at the Madison Hospital and Madison Clinic, where she completed her course as an X-ray Technician. She eventually moved to Minneapolis where she worked many years at the Richfield Clinic in Richfield, MN.
She was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
In 2016 she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to be closer to her family. Survivors include her sister, Clara Ackerman of Cedar Rapids; nephews Terry (Janell, deceased) Ackerman of Center Point, IA; David (Karen) Ackerman of Cedar Rapids, nieces Dixie (Rod) Newbigging of Spokane, WA; and Ethel (Dennis) Winger of Cedar Rapids; as well as many great, and multiple-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Alma Vangsnes, and a brother-in-law, Harry Ackerman.
