Michael “Mick” Egan, 74, of Colton died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the Hudson Care and Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, December 22, 2017 at the United Methodist Church, Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 PM Thursday at the Minnehaha Funeral Chapel, Colton.
Michael “Mick” was born May 4, 1943 in Sioux Falls to parents Lloyd and Marie (Nelson) Egan. Mick grew up in Colton and graduated from Colton High School. He then earned a BS degree from General Beadle College in Madison and a Master’s Degree from USD.
He entered the United States Army in 1966 and served during Vietnam until his discharge in 1968. After returning to Colton he worked as a carpenter and painter in the Colton area. He was a member of the Colton American Legion.
Mick loved to travel and traveled many times to England, Scotland and Ireland. He also traveled to many other countries, where he loved meeting people. He enjoyed reading and could remember all that he read. His family called him the “walking encyclopedia”
Grateful for having shared his life are his siblings, Syl Egan, Cota De Caza, California; David (Judy) Egan, Littleton, Colorado; Jeanne Egan, Sioux Falls; and Jeannette Schlichting, Colman; a nephew, Doug Burgers; four nieces, Tracy (Terry) Plecity, Barb Egan, Nancy Egan, and Kelley (Tim) Griffith.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
