Marty Hefner, 57, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away at Ava’s Hospice House on July 22, 2018. Visitation with the family present will be on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids, SD. Marty’s funeral service will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD at 11:00 am Thursday, July 26, 2018 with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester, SD.

Marty was born on January 4 ^th , 1961 to Merlin Hefner and Jan (Davies) Hefner of Chester, SD.  He attended Chester High School graduating in 1979. Following high school, he moved to Florida for a short time. When he returned to South Dakota, he got a job working for Ronning Companies for which he worked for up until his time of passing.

In 1985, Marty joined the South Dakota National Guard where he rose to the rank of staff sergeant in security forces at the Sioux Falls Air Base. He was awarded the South Dakota non-commissioned officer of the year award in 1989.

In 1990, Marty was joined in marriage to Kim Spicer. In which time, they became parents to Jordan in 1991 and Ali in 1993.

Marty was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, cooking, carpentry and being with is family.

Marty is survived by his son, Jordan (Kelsey) Hefner; daughter, Ali Hefner; mother, Jan Hefner; sister, Kellie (Paul) Kneip; nephew, Kris Kneip; nieces, Kenzi (Drew) Henderson and Morgan Kneip of Sioux Falls; former spouse, Kim Hefner-Hines of Wentworth, SD and many other loved family members. Marty is preceded in death by his father, Merlin Hefner.
