Marilyn L. Swenson

Marilyn L. Swenson, 81, of Sioux Falls passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Covington Heights Care and Rehab Center.

Memorial services will begin at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Sherman.  There will be no visitation.  Memorials may be directed to the Highland Lutheran Church.

Marilyn was born October 6, 1936 in Dell Rapids to parents Obed and Alice (Iverson) Shellum.  She grew up on a farm near Sherman and attended Lincoln Country School, before graduating from Jasper High School in 1954.

On August 10, 1957 she married Johan “Joe” Swenson at Highland Lutheran Church.  After their marriage they lived in Brookings and later in New Jersey and Omaha, Nebraska.  Joe died July 30, 1989.  In 1996, Marilyn moved to Sioux Falls.

Marilyn was a Minnesota Twins fan, enjoyed the farm, traveling, cats and dogs, but truly loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Sandra Eidy, San Francisco, California, Scott Swenson, Kansas City, Kansas, and Cindy McCormack, Omaha, Nebraska; her grandchildren, Jessica, Bob, Cody, Savannah, Tyler, Tanner, and Kirsten; sisters, Mary Lou DeNeui, Ft. Pierre, and Diane Nussbaum, Sioux Falls; sisters in law, Mary Ann Swenson, Sioux Falls and Evangeline Lawrence, Omaha, Nebraska; brother in law, Marvin Swenson, Sherman; special cousins, Lorraine Johnson, Jasper, and Arnold (Arlene) Berkeland, Sioux Falls.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Raymond.
