Marie C. Roemen, 89, of Dell Rapids passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM followed by a Wake Service and praying of the Rosary at 7:00 PM Monday at the church.

Marie was born in Parkston, South Dakota on April 22, 1929. She attended Sacred Heart School and after graduation she worked at the Kayser Department Store in Parkston and the telephone company in Huron before enrolling in the South Dakota Beauty Academy. Marie met her husband, Ervin Roemen, at the Arkota Ballroom and they were married in 1953. They made their home on the Roemen farm in Larchwood, Iowa until 1961, when they moved to Dell Rapids.

Many words are used to describe Marie, tenacious, humble, loving, funny, beautiful, and strong. Marie devoted herself to raising her twelve children of whom she was most proud. She lost many who were dear to her, but graciously persevered.

Her love was authentic, and laughter naturally filled the air wherever she was present. Her wit was quick and her humor was unparalleled and her occasional feistiness was always a source of many amusing stories. For decades, she ran Marie’s Beauty Shop in her home. Marie was tireless in her efforts of charity. She spent countless hours volunteering. The walls of St. Mary’s know well the dedication of Marie Roemen.

Marie was the foundation for her fourteen children, thirty-nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and countless others had the privilege to have loved her and to have been loved by her. And what is greater is how many of these Marie brought to the holy altar to receive the Sacraments of Jesus Christ.

She is now experiencing an ecstatic reunion with her parents, Clemens and Mary Fritza; husband, Ervin; brothers, Joe, Leo, and Norb Fritza; two children, Francis Robert and Tommy Francis; grandson, Samuel Farner and many of her dear friends. She is survived by her children, Paul (Carol), Renner, Donna, Minneapolis, Tom (Roseann), Denver, Bobbi (Jay Sittig), Dell Rapids, Susan (Greg Ricks), Savannah, GA, Ann (Dan Beacom), Sioux Falls, Mike, Dell Rapids, Alan (Ronda), Sioux Falls, Jeanne (Steve Farner), Omaha, Mark (Christy), Dell Rapids. Dan (Renee’), Madison, and Dianne (Mark Lamb), Sioux Falls. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Joan Fritza, Mitchell, Vi Fritza, Mount Vernon, and LaVerna O'Connell, Sioux Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.
