Lyle Sylvester Helgeson

Lyle Sylvester Helgeson, age 77, of Sioux Falls, died on Friday, April 9, 2021, at Avantara Norton in Sioux Falls. Public funeral service will begin at 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the West Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, rural Crooks. The family strongly encourages masks.

Lyle was born on November 8, 1943 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Robert W. and Eleanor (Severson) Helgeson. The family resided on a farm between Renner and Crooks, South Dakota, until 1962, when they moved across a field to the family homestead (Helgeson Hill). Lyle attended Renner Grade School and graduated from Baltic High School in 1961. He then attended Nettleton Commercial College for bookkeeping and worked for First National Bank in Pipestone until he was drafted in 1965. Lyle served in the United States Army from 1965-67 and was stationed overseas in Frankfurt, Germany.

Lyle enjoyed sports and announced baseball and softball games and coached softball teams.

Lyle is survived by his sister: Linda (Claire) Hines; sister-in-law, Margaret Helgeson; seven nieces and nephews; ten great nieces and nephews; one great-great niece; and special friends and caregivers, Terry and Joanne Lindstrom.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Cheryl Dybvig, brother Glen Helgeson, brother-in-law Richard Dybvig, and two infant nieces.
