Larry’s father was in the Air Force and as a youth Larry traveled throughout the world, attending schools in the US, British Columbia, Japan and Germany.  He received a high school diploma from Salt Lake Community High School.   Larry also served in the Air Force, received an honorable discharge, and served in the Montana Air National Guard.  He also served in Vietnam for a short time.

After his military service he worked as a park ranger for the National Park Service for 25 years.  He thoroughly enjoyed the park ranger’s job which encompasses 4 areas: Law Enforcement, Compliance, Search and Rescue and Firefighting.  Larry was a park ranger at 12 national parks and had in-depth knowledge about many of our national parks.

For a number of years, he traveled from national park to park living in his 5 th wheel trailer. Over the years he earned senior level certifications in numerous types of Construction Equipment Operations, Firefighting, First Aid, Boating Regulations and Enforcement and Customer Service.

Larry was known as ‘Moe’ to most. He thoroughly enjoyed his work for the National Park Service and enjoyed fishing, skiing, swimming, hunting, and watching baseball and hockey.  One time he parasailed so high that they used the full length of the retaining cord or 800’. Another, he flew in a helicopter extremely close to the sides of the Grand Canyon. Another time with the National Park Service a grizzly bear was so close that he and others were actually chased down a steep hill.

Larry was a lot of fun to be with and enjoyed his life to the fullest.

It is not so much for its beauty
that the forest makes a claim
upon men’s hearts, as for that
subtle something, that quality
of air, that emanation from old
trees, that so wonderfully
changes and renews a weary
spirit.

-Robert Louis Stevenson
