Kevin was born on December 29, 1960, to Edward and Avis (Friese) Ordalen in Watson, Minnesota; the seventh of eight children. They lived in Watson for one year and he grew up in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He loved the Minnesota Vikings, and played football, softball, and hockey. He also loved bicycling and was proud to have completed the Freeborn County Bikeathon; a 100-mile charity ride for cancer research. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1979.
Kevin worked as a young boy delivering newspapers. After graduating he worked for Freeborn County Food. During these early years, Kevin fell into drugs and alcohol which led him to treatment. By the grace of God and through the love of Christ, he has been clean for 37 years. He then worked with his dad at Eddie’s Farm Supply and Alanzo Wood Products. He then finally got to do what he enjoyed…package delivery. He worked for RPS in the Twin Cities (which later became FedEx).
In 1997, Kevin met the love of his life, Patricia Welbig, at the Mall of America. They married in 1999 and he moved to Sioux Falls. He continued to work for FedEx Ground as an independent contractor until 2014. Kevin then began working as a custodian at St. Katharine Drexel School at the church where Pat and Kevin were proud to be charter members. “Mr. Kevin” took great pride in his work at the school and loved being around the kids. Pat and Kevin’s hobbies were collecting antiques made in the USA. They loved going to the Black Hills…with stops at Al’s Oasis and Wall Drug. They hiked and fished in the Hills and enjoyed dining out.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; siblings: Karen (Lyle) Felsch, Nancy (Terry) Nalder, Edward (Beth) Ordalen, Shirley (Steve) Kermes, Julie (Brian) Lokken, and Lana (David) Lopes; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Avis Ordalen; brother, Gaylen Ordalen; and nieces, Andrea Ordalen, Ahne Ordalen, Charity Lopes, and Jessica Lokken.
Kevin is ever so grateful for parents for having him baptized. He especially wants to thank his church family, friends, and most of all his family for their prayers and support. He wishes to thank his lovely wife for her devotion and loving care during this difficult illness. Kevin thanks his Lord & Savior for the good life he was blessed to have.
