Kenneth “Kenny” Olson, age 75, of rural Valley Springs, SD, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2019, at Bethany Home in Brandon. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 AM Friday, January 25, 2019, at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church, rural Valley Springs. Private family burial will precede the service in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, at the church.

Kenny was born on February 21, 1943, on the Olson family homestead in rural Valley Springs to Norman and Doris (Hanson) Olson.  He and his 4 siblings (Roger, James, Natalie, and Ann) grew up on the family farm, and he attended school in Valley Springs.  He was actively involved in the family farm, an active member in the Rowena Rustling Raisers 4-H club, and involved in a variety of school activities.  He was elected 4-H chief and invited to attend 4-H Congress in Chicago.  Additionally, he was the homecoming king of his senior class.  Upon graduating from high school, Kenny joined the Army Reserves and did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.  During this time, he met his wife, Linda Olson.  They were married on June 21st, 1969. He began working at the Corson Coop Elevator, a career that lasted 40+ years.  They raised 3 children less than a mile from the family homestead.  Upon retiring from the Corson Elevator in 2005, Kenny then went to work at the Valley Springs Cooperative.  He was a lifelong member of Beaver Valley Lutheran Church.

Thankful for having shared his life are his children: Heidi (Tim) Jorgenson of Brandon, Nancy (John) Engebreth of Oakdale, MN, and Mark of Valley Springs; two grandchildren, Jacob and Owen Jorgenson; fur grandkids: Asha, Lena, Charlie, Goose, and MacKenzie; siblings: Roger (Jenny) Olson of Hudson, WI, James (Sue) Olson of Valley Springs, and Ann (Larry) Beesley of Brandon; brother-in-law, Terry Plueger of Brandon; and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Natalie Plueger.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to either the Rowena Rustling Raisers 4-H Club or Beaver Valley Lutheran Church.
