Kenneth Dean Gross

Kenneth "Kenny" Gross, age 82, of Garretson, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Kenny was born November 18, 1938 to parents Max and Margaret Gross.  He grew up in rural Valley Springs, SD and graduated from Valley Springs High School.

Following graduation, he served 4 years in the United States Army.  He was stationed in France and Germany.

Kenny married Donna Hanson November 1, 1963.  They made their home in Sioux Falls and Brandon until 1976 at which time they moved to rural Garretson.

Kenny drove truck over the road for many years.  He also worked for several townships grading roads and moving snow.  He and his son, Mike, also ran a hay business for many years.  Kenny enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing, NASCAR and all types of local racing.

Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Lori (Charlie) Holzapfel, Garretson; son, Mike (Mary) Gross, Garretson; grandson, Justin (Mandy) Holzapfel, Redwood Falls, MN; great-grandchildren, Keegan and Hadley Holzapfel.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; parents, Max & Margaret Gross; sister, Marjorie Lyng; brothers, Robert (Bob) & Paul Gross; and brother-in-law, Gordon Lyng.
