Karen Ann Hansen

Karen Ann (Brende) Hansen, age 80, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Good Samaritan Village. Memorial visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Baltic, SD. Private interment will be at a later date at East Nidaros Lutheran Cemetery, rural Baltic.
Karen was born December 21, 1941, to Lester and Norma Brende in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm near Baltic until the family moved to Sioux Falls in 1952 where she graduated from Washington High School in June of 1959.
Karen was united in marriage to Gary C. Hansen on June 21, 1959. For most of their 63 years together, they resided in Sioux Falls where they raised their two sons, Mark and Steve. Karen worked for Sunshine Foods (where she and Gary met), Augustana College, and a number of churches. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: Conversations over coffee, reading, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends. Most of all, Karen enjoyed attending the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Gary; sons: Mark (Rebecca) and Steve; grandchildren: Matthew, Luke (Cassandra), Austin, and Morgan; great granddaughters: Layla, Lilly; and her brother, Lyle (Sue) Brende; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Norma (Floren) Brende, daughter, Debra Lynn, and a sister, Sharon Rae Eck.
