John Niemann

John Niemann, age 57, of Baltic, SD died Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at the Benton Lutheran Church, rural Crooks, SD, with Pastor Tom Stadem officiating. Burial will follow at the Minnehaha Lutheran Cemetery in Colton, SD.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 11 th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Benton Lutheran Church, rural Crooks, SD.
In lieu of flowers family wishes memorials which will be directed to the South Dakota High School Rodeo Association.
John Niemann was born March 25, 1964, in Luverne, MN to Marvin and Patty (Hagen) Niemann. He was raised in the Colton area and graduated from Tri-Valley high school.
On May 21, 1994 John was united in marriage to Kim Swier. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Karly. They made their home on an acreage outside of Baltic, where they enjoyed working with their horses.
John worked as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Sioux Falls for 31 years. Most recently John started his own business mowing ditches alongside operating the road maintainer for Benton and Grand Meadow townships.
Among the many things John enjoyed with his wife and daughter was the love of horses and rodeo. He enjoyed participating in roping events himself but even more, he loved watching Karly compete. Over the years he and his family went on rides and wagon trains with his wonderful friends making lots of great memories. As the ol’ cowboy got older, he found it easier on the knees to ride a side-by-side with his wife, in which they enjoyed many summer trips out to the Black Hills.
John fought hard against the cancer that finally took him. He worked hard and loved those around him and was always grateful for faith, family and friends. This past Saturday, John passed away at the Sanford Hospice Cottage at the age of 57. He will be greatly missed.
John is survived by his wife, Kim Niemann of Baltic; daughter, Karly Niemann of Missoula, MT; mother, Patty Niemann of Sioux Falls, SD; mother-in-law, Elaine Swier of Crooks, SD; sisters, Paula (Kurt) Nussbaum of Garretson, SD, and Jill (Daniel) Brown of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Niemann; sisters, Julie and Charlotte; father-in-law, Harvey Swier.
