Joann Jeanette Morgan

Joann Jeanette Morgan, age 86, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, in Sioux Falls, SD. Memorial services will begin at 1:30 PM Monday, May 15, 2023, at Renner Lutheran Church in Renner, SD. A time to greet the family will begin one hour before the service. Interment will be at a later date at the South Dakota State Veterans Cemetery.

Joann was born on February 19, 1937, in Sioux Falls, to the late Joseph and Geraldine (Brendsel) Aspaas.

The oldest of twelve, she helped raise many of her siblings over the years. She grew up near Renner and attended country school. Joann graduated from Baltic High School in 1955. She spent most of her life living in the Sioux Falls and the Renner area. On January 16, 1970, she married Robert Morgan Jr in Luverne, MN. In addition to raising her children, she worked as a bookkeeper, office manager, and waitress.

Joann enjoyed spending time with her family and playing bingo. Family connection and commitment was important to her and the family affectionately referred to her as “Sarge.” She was very sharp and remembered everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries. She will forever be remembered for her stories and ability to proudly share our Aspaas clan family connections, present day and from generations past. Joann was a member of Renner Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir. In her early years, she sang at many weddings and funerals.

Joann is survived by her husband, Robert Morgan Jr, Sioux Falls; children: Linda Trigg, Sioux Falls, Tanya (Joe) Kuusela, Sioux Falls, Chris (Sueann) Trigg, Sioux Falls, Leigha (Joe) Mroz, Brownsburg, IN, and Mitch (Berry Wells) Morgan, Brownsburg, IN; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings: Larry (Jane) Aspaas, Shannon Myran, D’One (Dennis) Riswold, Debra (Ron Vail) Garland, Sharol (Randy) Hill, and Karol (Rob) Wallner; her best friend/family member Arlie Knutson as well as many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Keith, Darrell, Bobby Dean, and Dan Aspaas; and a sister, Pam Sorum.
