Jean Franz

Jean Franz, age 67, of St. Cloud, Minnesota, passed away at her home on April 14, 2017. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Flandreau, South Dakota.

Jean was born on September 29, 1949, to Alvin and Edna (Hammer) Franz in Flandreau, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Flandreau.  Jean graduated from Jasper High School and attended Dakota Wesleyan School of Nursing in Mitchell, SD and graduated with an RN degree. Jean worked for over 40 years as a nurse, with 28 of those years at Dr.’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in orthopedics with special training in trauma laser hand surgery. After moving back to Minnesota, she worked at St. Cloud Hospital, Walmart, and volunteered on a St. Cloud rescue team. Jean enjoyed reading, spending time sailing on Leech Lake, watching any and all sports (most especially the Minnesota Vikings), and spending time with family.

Jean is survived by her mother, Edna Bragstad, Garretson; siblings: Dennis (Kathie) Franz, Garretson, Chuck (Sue) Franz, Pipestone, Joan (Lee) York, Lake Wilson, Minnesota, Bette Olson, St. Cloud; twelve nieces and nephews; and sixteen great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Franz, step-father, Joe Bragstad, brother-in-law, David Olson, and a great-niece, Megan Muyres.
