Janet H. Johnson

Janet H. Johnson, age 95, of Crooks, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Bethany Home in Brandon. Public visitation will be from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Benton Lutheran Church, Crooks. Private interment will be in the Benton Lutheran Cemetery.

Janet was born on October 24, 1925 in Sioux Falls to John C and Clara (Baumberger) Miller. She graduated from Washington High School in 1943 and from Augustana College four years later. Following her education, she taught at several different schools. On October 5, 1947, she married the love of her life, Leonard Johnson, at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. They lived north of Crooks for 57 years until Leonard’s death in 2002, when she moved into Crooks. In later years she worked part time for various places including helping the elderly through LEE (Life Enrichment for the Elderly).

Janet was a member of Benton Lutheran Church near Crooks where she was the church organist and involved in many groups. She enjoyed reading and playing cards. She was also a charter member of the Sweet Adelines Singing Group and was also its president.

Survivors include her children: Dawn (Bob) Pearson, Choteau, MT, Leon (Carol) Johnson, Crooks, Marlyn (Diane) Johnson, Marshfield, MO, and Loren (Pam) Johnson, Omaha, NE; eight grandchildren: Brian Pearson, Ben Pearson, LeAnn Marrale, Travis Johnson, Grady Johnson, Megan Johnson, Brittney Johnson, and Trevor Johnson; eight great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Estelle Johnson, and Deloris Gustafson; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leonard; a sister, Lois (Rudy) Benson; and nieces Dianne Benson Mann, and Denise Benson.
