Ila was born on May 1, 1942, in Sioux Falls, to Marvin and Atha Berge. Ila along with her sister Sheryl were raised in Colton, SD. She attended and graduated from Colton High School. She then went on to Beauty School in Sioux Falls and worked for Marilyn Edwards at her salon in Colton. She married David Bunjer and to this union Susan and Nancy were born. She married Harvey Mathieu and gained her only son Mark and to this union Kathy was born.
After she moved to Chester she started and ran “Ila’s Daycare” for 28 years. She absolutely loved taking care of all the kids throughout the years. She found great joy in making each and every one a special handmade picture ornament for their Christmas trees. She spent countless hours behind her sewing machine making many things from scratch including lots of clothing for her children when they were young. Lots of people brought items to Ila to see if she could mend it or make it fit. She was an active member in her church and spent many hours in the kitchen during church suppers.
She cherished spending time with family and friends, crafting, crocheting, gardening, canning and her absolute love of all the little kids that she did daycare for and their families.
Survivors include daughter-in-law Lisa (Carruthers) Mathieu, Colton. Daughters Susan Bunjer, Sioux Falls. Nancy (Michael) Roberts, Chester, Kathy Carman, Parker.
