Gloria Lynn Winterton
July 21, 1954 — March 14, 2019
Gloria Lynn Winterton, age 64, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2019 at Lake Norden Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lake Norden, SD following a brave 3 ½ year battle with brain cancer. Gloria was born to Ordell and Madeline (Krogstad) Winterton on July 21, 1954. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Sherman, SD. Following graduation from Garretson High School in 1973, Gloria attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls.
Gloria lived most of her life in Sioux Falls having worked at Raven Industries, Littons, JW Windows, Argus Leader and Good Samaritan Village. She was a member of Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.
Gloria’s faith and her family were very important to her. She enjoyed singing in the choir, reading the Bible and attending Bible Study. She was kind and loving, and took great joy in spoiling her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She had a mischievous and fun-loving nature, playfully teasing family members and friends.
Gloria loved to take pictures of family and had fun sharing the candid shots she had taken. She enjoyed bowling, playing card games, and handwork. But what she enjoyed the most and took great pride in was her handwork. She did beautiful cross stitch projects, crocheted countless afghans and had an extra special talent for hardanger. These were works of art given as treasured gifts to family members and friends. She also made hardanger altar paraments for a few area churches.
Blessed for having shared her life are her siblings Alice (Ray) Christensen of Sioux Falls, Beverly (Stuart) Nelson of Fountain, MN, Marilyn (Marcus) Anderson of Clearwater, MN, Darrell (Teresa) Winterton of Garretson, Kristi (Scott) Hansen of Rochester, MN, Alan (LaDonna) Winterton of Sherman, her 19 nieces and nephews, 23 great-nieces and great-nephews and her very special friend Dennis Olson. She was preceded in death by her parents Ordell and Madeline Winterton.
Celebration of Life for Gloria will begin at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson SD, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
