Eula Mae Varns, age 93, of Sioux Falls, died on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls. Graveside services will begin at 1:00 PM, Monday, March 26, 2018, at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be from 2—3:00 PM Sunday, with a time of sharing at 3:00 PM, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Baltic.
Eula was born in Mott, North Dakota on March 4, 1925, to Thomas Abram and Deede Augusta (Wilder) Varns, the third of ten children. She moved to the Colton area when she was four years old and attended country schools and graduated from Chester High School in 1944. She moved to Sioux Falls and worked at the Air National Guard as a truck driver. She then worked at John Morrell Co. for 28 years and finally for the Community Health Center for 10 years. After she retired, she volunteered for Meal on Wheels and the R.S.V.P. until a fall curtailed her mobility.
Eula enjoyed sports, playing softball, and bowling. She also enjoyed playing bridge and doing crossword puzzles. But Eula’s greatest enjoyment in her life was being with her nieces and nephews. She would take them to the Black Hills, Lake Okoboji, fairs, and to Kansas City, St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis for baseball games. She would also take her parents on trips around the country.
Eula leaves to mourn her passing special friend, Marlys Woolheater, Sioux Falls; brother, Norman (Dorothy) Varns, Sioux Falls, sister, Loretta (Duane) Miller, Sioux Falls; brothers-in-law: Vince Miller, Dr. AL Bandura, and Dick Lahn; and her cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Edward and James Varns; and sisters: Virginia Bandura, Erma Lahn, Betty Miller, Dorothy Welbig, and Goldie Varns.
