Eugene Jon Lee

Eugene Jon Lee, age 72, of Colton, SD, died Monday, March 28, 2022, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 4, 2022, at Quarry Rock Church in Dell Rapids, SD with Pastor Milt Borah officiating.

A time of visitation with the family present will take place at the church prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday.

Eugene Jon Lee was born December 9, 1949 in Boone, IA to Millard and Mary (Tripp) Lee.  He received his education in a country school near Boone.  In his younger years he helped his father and uncles farm near Boone.

On July 29, 1977 Eugene was united in marriage in Boone, IA to Birdie Sundquist.  To this union three children (Jon, Joseph, & Jennie) were born.  Sadly, the couple lost their young son Jon at the age of three.  The young couple raised their family on a farm near Boone. There he would plant soybeans, field corn, and lots of sweet corn (which he always gave away). Many years he also raised hogs. Eugene was very good at fixing his own equipment.

Eugene was very involved with his church, Cornerstone Alliance in Boone. He served as a Deacon and enjoyed making sure the coffee pot was on when people arrived.  He loved playing slow pitch softball when he was young and enjoyed coaching his kids in sports.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and chatting at the elevator.

In 2009 Eugene and Birdie retired and moved to Colton, SD. Eugene continue farming by helping an area farmer.  He also drove school bus until failing health forced him into true retirement.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Birdie Lee of Colton, SD; son, Joseph Lee of Dell Rapids, SD; daughter, Jennie (Kevin) Strom of Colton, SD and their children, Luke, Elijah, Nathan, and Joshua; brother, Warren (Nancy) Lee of Boone, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Mary; son, Jon Millard Lee; brother and sister-in-law, James and Donna Lee.
