Elmer T. Haugen, Jr

Elmer T. Haugen, Jr., age 88, of Sioux Falls, formerly of rural Dell Rapids, died on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Willow Creek Lutheran Church, rural Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Willow Creek Lutheran Church or Cemetery.
Elmer was born on January 12, 1931 to Elmer and Thelma Haugen. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1949 and served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He was married to Janet Mathisen on June 4, 1955. She died in 1992.
Elmer was a farmer all of his life with dairy cattle being his specialty. He served on several boards associated with farming. After he retired, he worked at Sioux Valley Hospital in the maintenance department.
Elmer’s faith in his Lord was important and helped him in many situations. He was a member of Willow Creek Lutheran Church and served in several positions throughout his years. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed traveling to Norway to visit the homeland of his ancestors. He was married to Evelyn Fischer on September 14, 1996. She died in 2017.
Elmer is survived by his son, Steve; and his daughter, Karla; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Thelma; wife, Janet; and wife, Evelyn. He is also survived by his brother, Jim; and his sisters: Gertrude Olson, Ethel Grieger, and Laverne Welter.
