Eileen Marie (Carlson) Johnson, age 72, of Garretson, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Bethany Home in Brandon. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Visitation will be from 5-7:30 PM Monday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or a local charity. Eileen’s family will be wearing purple, the Alzheimer’s Awareness color, at her funeral and invites others to do so as well.

Eileen was born on September 11th, 1945 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Leonard and Gerry (Haley) Carlson.

She was raised in Corson, SD and graduated from Brandon High School in 1963. On June 15 ^th , 1963 she was united in marriage to Richard Johnson at Split Rock Lutheran Church. The two then moved to Garretson.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid.  Her passion was cooking and baking. She worked as a cook at the Garretson Senior Citizen Center and Garretson School. She also drove bus for the school. Eileen retired in 2007. After retiring her love for cooking and baking did not stop there. She could whip up a meal with just about anything. After retirement she love reading magazines and finding “tedious” baking projects to make for and with her grandchildren. She would say those were “Baked with love”. Christmas baking had its own overboard level!  She also enjoyed morning coffee with the ladies at the cookie jar & Annie’s.

Eileen’s pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter.  She enjoyed attending their sporting and school events, but especially loved teaching them how to bake and cook.  When her children were younger her family enjoyed the cabin at lake Poinsett.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Richard of Garretson, children: Kent (Kerri) of Bonney Lake, Washington, Steven (Angie) of Garretson, Jeffery (Kris) of Garretson; nine grandchildren: Ben (Larissa), Alex, Zen Fauth, Brittney, Kenny Jr., Riley, Katie, Tait, and Nadalie; one great granddaughter Aspyn; one sister, Linda DeWitte of Gaylord, Minnesota; sister in law, Shirley Johnson of Garretson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Judy Benz, daughter in law Belen Johnson, and brother in law Jerome Johnson.
