Duane Crisp went home to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Duane Maurice Crisp was born August 14, 1929 to Maurice and Florence (Hart) Crisp. Duane and brother, Raymond grew up on the family Homestead east of Dell Rapids on the Jasper Highway in Logan Township.
Duane graduated from Dell Rapids High School and attended one year of college at Brookings before joining the United States Navy. Duane married Joy (Finley) on July 22, 1950. While he served stateside during the Korean War, he was stationed in Pensacola, Florida and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1953.
Duane and Joy had a stillborn son (Steven), Lynne, Delain and Bradley. The family lived on the farm until 1971 when the family moved into Dell Rapids. The marriage was dissolved in 1973.
Duane was an active member of Post 65 American Legion for nearly 60 years, an active member of the Shriners and the Dell Rapids Lyons Club. He was an avid bowler and golfer.
In 1977, Duane married Murlene “Mae” Campbell. They lived in Baltic until Mae’s death December 24, 2003. They worked together in their business, Crisp Insurance Agency in Dell Rapids for many years. The couple was very active in First Assembly of God Church on 41 st in Sioux Falls. Duane was a born-again believer and a prayer warrior always praying without ceasing. Duane and Mae loved traveling and had special times on the beaches of North Carolina.
Grateful for having shared his life are daughter and son-in-law, Delain (Soelzer) and Alan Johnson of Sun City West, AZ; and son, Bradley Crisp of Sturgis, SD; brother, Raymond Crisp, Dell Rapids.
Grandchildren: Joshua (Beth) Soelzer, Timothy Soelzer, Amy (Joe) Hildebrand, Jennifer Jensen, Logan Crisp, Miranda (Crisp) Price, Melissa (Chris) Sheppard, Christina Thompson and Sarah (Adam) Price.
Great Grandchildren: Austin, Christian and Caleb Soelzer; Alexander Soelzer; and Shane, Marissa and Bryce Jensen.
Nieces and Nephew: Gary (Linda) Crisp, Nancy (Curt) Anderson, and Cindy Crisp.
Duane is preceded in death by both parents, his wife, Murlene (Mae) Crisp, daughter Lynne Welbig, and grandson, Christopher F. Soelzer, KIA 12/24/2003
A celebration of his life will be held at Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids on Friday, September 7 at 10:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM.
