Dorothy Mavis Reese Williamson, age 91, of Garretson, died on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne, Minnesota. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Garretson. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.

Dorothy was born on January 3, 1926 near Sherman, South Dakota in Rock County, Minnesota to Emil & Meta (Burmeister) Reese. She was baptized on March 3, 1926 and confirmed on May 28, 1939 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper, and attended District 45 Country School in Rock County. She graduated from Garretson High School and then attended General Beadle Teacher’s College in Madison, South Dakota. She taught for two years in District 126 (1944-1945) and MN School (1945-1946).

On June 14, 1946, Dorothy married Elmo Williamson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Sioux Falls while Elmo worked for Nash Finch. They then settled in Springwater Township, Rock County, Minnesota, where they farmed until moving into Garretson on October 8, 2005. Elmo passed away on May 15, 2008. Dorothy then moved to Jasper Sunrise Village in 2013, and finally to the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne in 2014.

Dorothy was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was active in the Ladies Aid and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Polled Hereford Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a 4-H Club Leader and enjoyed her neighborhood birthday club. She loved sewing, knitting, entertaining, and golfing and recorded a hole-in-one in Brandon. She enjoyed traveling with Elmo to various locations that included: Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, and Norway; and many years of wintering in Mesa, Arizona.

Survivors include her children: Eileen (Floyd) Swier, Wetonka, SD, Wayne (Jolene) Williamson, Yankton, SD, Stan (Karen) Williamson, Garretson, and Mary (Jerry) Blankers, Lake Wilson, MN; twelve grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Vernon (Phyllis) Williamson, Anoka MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmo in 2008; siblings: Helen (Howard) Winstead, and Donald Reese; and her brother-in-law, Perry (Shirley) Williamson.
