Dorothy Ione Sather

April 2, 1928 — March 13, 2021

Dorothy Ione Sather, age 92, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Good Samaritan Luther Manor. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Masks are required in the church. The service will be livestreamed on the East Side Lutheran Facebook Page. Memorials may be directed to East Side Lutheran Broadcasting.

Dorothy was born on April 2, 1928, on the family farm east of Garretson in Rock County, Minnesota, to Knute and Gertie (Oppedahl) Julson. She grew up in Rock County and was baptized and confirmed at Palisade Lutheran Church. She attended county school District 52 and Garretson High School for two years.  Following her sophomore year, she moved with her family to Sioux Fall in 1944 and graduated from Washington High School in 1946. Her favorite activity in school was playing the trumpet and French horn in the Washington High School Band. During the war, she worked as a riveter at Sioux Steel and at Gambles in the office.

On March 15, 1947, she married Jalmer Sather at Palisade Lutheran Church, rural Rock County. They lived in Luverne for two years until moving to Sioux Falls in 1948. She was a salesperson at several businesses in Sioux Falls and a homemaker.

Dorothy was a member of East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls where she was active in WELCA Mary Circle. She was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Through the years she was employed by Buttrey’s, S&L, Montgomery Ward, Family Drug, and Sparkle Uniform. In January of 2019, she moved to Luther Manor. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and good friend, and for having a good sense of humor.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Judy Tidemann, Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Lisa Tidemann, Sioux Falls, and Eric Tidemann, Brandon; great grandchildren, Brady John and Emma Mae Tidemann; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jalmer on June 2, 1997; granddaughter, Laurie Ann Tidemann; siblings, Beatrice, Clayton, and Kenneth, and a sister-in-law, Adella.
