Charles “Chuck” Leroy Hagemeyer, age 77, of Garretson died on Monday, June 17, 2019, at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center. Memorial visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Interment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Chuck was born on December 27, 1941, at Viborg, South Dakota, to Harry and Lillian (Andersen) Hagemeyer. He grew up on farms in Turner and Minnehaha counties. After his education, he farmed with his dad until beginning his life as a truck driver. Chuck entered the United States Army in 1964. He served in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1966. He married Sandra Sheldon on June 22, 1968. To this union he was blessed with three sons.
Chuck married Cheryl Zuraff on July 1, 1995 in Sioux Falls. They lived in Black Hawk, South Dakota until settling in Garretson in 1998. Chuck retired in 2009. He enjoyed working and mowing his lawn.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl, Garretson; sons: David Hagemeyer, Mitchell, James (Brandi) Safar, Shawnee, OK, Jason (Amadee) Safar, Black Hawk; brothers: Donald (Jessie) Hagemeyer, Sioux Falls, Dennis (Tracy) Hagemeyer, Garretson; sister, Marilyn (Gary) Monfort, Washington State; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents: Harry and Lillian (Andersen) Hagemeyer; sons: Danny and Dean Hagemeyer; and a brother, Kenneth Hagemeyer.
