Carroll G. Irvine

Carroll Gene Irvine, age 94, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Colton, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Dow Rummel in Sioux Falls. Public funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Carroll was born on December 18, 1926 to Ben and Emma (Mundt) Irvine in Sioux Falls. Carroll joined the Army in May of 1946 for an 18-month enlistment in Korea as a Staff Sergeant of the motor pool. He met the love of his life, Geraldine Wold, and married her in Colton, SD on February 14, 1946, Valentine’s Day. They had one son, Robert and raised a nephew, Harley Redlin.

Carroll got a job in 1947 at the Ford dealership in Sioux Falls for 10 years and became one of the top tune-up mechanics in the state.  In 1957, Carroll started farming near Colton, in the Buffalo Trading Post area, until retiring to be near family in Harrisburg, SD in 1992. He was a member of the Harrisburg American Legion Post 45.

He is survived by his son, Robert (Tina); two grandchildren: Douglas Irvine and Amy Thurston (Bryon); two great grandchildren, Rebecca Pinkerton and Wyatt Thurston; nephew, Harley (Viola) Redlin; two brothers: Larry and Dennis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geraldine; and three sisters: Fern, Lorraine, and Betty.
