In 1963, the family moved to the Monger family farm where they resided until 1973. Bette and Walt had many friends who also had children of these ages and had many enjoyable gatherings.

For several years she was an ambulance attendant and volunteered at Palisades Nursing Home and delivered Meals on Wheels. In 2003, they retired and moved back to Jasper MN, where she again became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.  Bette was a member of several card clubs and Jasper Senior Citizens, enjoyed playing Dominoes and other games, doing crafts, and making quilts.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and made quilts for all her children and grandchildren.
