Benton James Howe

Benton James Howe, age 11, of rural Sherman, died on Friday, April 15, 2022, near his family's farm with his dog by his side. A Celebration of Benton’s Life will begin at 11:00 AM Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Garretson High School Gymnasium. Burial will follow at the South Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Sherman. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM Thursday, at Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. Due to limited parking at the cemetery, please consider carpooling with other families.The family requests casual dress at the funeral and visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a future charitable use.

Benton James was born on September 8, 2010, in Sioux Falls to Nathan and Betsy (Linneweber) Howe. He was baptized on November 28, 2010, at Highland Lutheran Church and received his first communion there on April 3, 2022. Benton’s life revolved around his family’s dairy farm. Helping his dad, grandpa Brian, and uncle Ryan with chores, and riding in the tractors, choppers, and combines, were part of his everyday life. As he grew older, he found many outdoor activities to keep him busy. He loved to trap, fish, and hunt and ride his dirt bike and snowmobile. This past year he was able to get his first doe with his dad and grandpa Paul. Benton was in the 5 ^th grade at Garretson Elementary School where his friends and classmates were a big part of his life. He loved sports and competed in wrestling, junior football, and baseball. He experienced big moments, like competing in a motocross race and making the state youth wrestling tournament. But most of all, Benton cherished being a role model to his brothers and cousins.

He will be forever missed by his parents: Nathan and Betsy Howe, Sherman; brothers: Bryce and Miles; grandparents: Brian and Heather Howe, Sherman, and Paul and Jodi Linneweber, Garretson; aunts & uncles: Ryan and Jennifer Howe, Sherman, Jill and Mike Schwebach, Sherman, Cody and M’Lynn Linneweber, Garretson, and Becca and Sam Stanforth, Sioux Falls; cousins: Kendra and Wyatt Howe, Brooklyn and Easton Schwebach, and Taylynn Luedtke; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents: Verlyn and Eunice Howe, Bill and Jill Munce, Fran and Emma Linneweber, and Don and Betty Eisenberg; and his cousin, Brooks Linneweber.
