Barbara L. Marquart

Barbara Marquart, 85, of Renner, SD died Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare in Hawarden, IA.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, June 25, 2021 at Renner Lutheran Church in Renner, SD with Rev. Laura Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow at the East Nidaros Cemetery rural Baltic, SD.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7:00 PM at the church.

Family would appreciate memorials directed to the ELCW Ladies Circle of the Renner Lutheran Church.

Barbara was born on August 2, 1935, in Sioux Falls, SD at Sioux Valley Hospital to Elmer Austin Brende Sr. and Inez (Oien) Brende.  She was baptized at East Nidaros Lutheran Church and grew up in and around the town of Renner.  She attended the Eggers country school in rural Renner and graduated from Washington High School in 1953.  Barb spent 45 years working in the banking industry retiring from First Premier Bank.  Barb and Don were married on May 20, 1967.  They lived in Sioux Falls before moving back to her family home in Renner in 1986.

Don and Barb’s most cherished memories were of their vacations on their motorcycle attending numerous Sturgis rallies.  In their retirement they wintered at Trophy Gardens in Alamo, TX making lifelong friends.  They were married for 47 years until Don’s passing in 2014.  Barb enjoyed spending time with family on holidays and having coffee with friends at McDonald’s, lunches with retired coworkers and her bowling team.  Barbara’s faith was important to her and she especially loved spending time at Renner Lutheran Church doing everything she could to help in every manner of church functions.

She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Shawn (Brende) Wilson of Des Moines, IA, Scott and Sandy Brende of Renner, SD, Shanna Brende of Kansas City, MO, Brett and Kelly Brende of Leawood, KS, Nancy and Wayne Kaehler of Atwater, MN, Dean and Pamela Parisian of Crossville, TN; and other extended family members.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Sr. and Inez Brende; her beloved husband, Don Marquart; and her brother, Elmer Jr.
