They then moved to a farm near Garretson and into town in 1986. Ardis worked for Palisade Manor as a nurses aide and enjoyed visiting with the residents. She was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. She enjoyed her music and playing the organ. She loved working with the kids for programs and other activities at the school. She is best known for her great baking and cooking skills. Kids loved her brownies, rolls and hot chocolate after a day of sledding down the hill on their farm. She loved to play card games and also watching the grandkids at their sport activities.

She moved to Sioux Falls and lived there until the time of her death.
