Amy Van Dam, age 53, of rural Garretson, SD, passed away suddenly at her home August 11, 2022.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids, SD with Fr Shane Stevens Celebrating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Dell Rapids, SD.
Visitation will be Monday, August 15 th from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids, SD.
In lieu of flowers family wish memorials which will be directed at a later date.
Amy Frances Van Dam was born October 10, 1968, in Dell Rapids, SD to Terry and Patricia (Foster) Sward. She grew up in Dell Rapids and attended school at St. Mary’s and Dell Rapids Public. After high school she worked at Citibank then the ASCS office and most recently Sanford Women’s Health.
Amy was united in marriage to Robert Nicholas Van Dam (Robbie) on September 9, 1989. From that marriage came three children, Nicholas, Morgan and Marcus and three grandchildren, Sierrah, Lilliana and James.
Amy loved being with her family, grandchildren, and sister. She spent every Sunday at Grandma Pat’s playing cards and playing with the grandkids. Amy enjoyed many trips to the Black Hills with Todd. She also cherished her many “girls” trips to Renaissance Festival, shopping trips to the cities, and vacations to Myrtle Beach and Florida. She loved helping Marcus sell many pounds of asparagus every spring.
She is survived by her mother, Pat Sward; children, Nicholas, Morgan and Marcus and three grandchildren, Sierrah, Lilliana and James; brother, Kelly (Angie) Sward; sister, Nancy (Dale) Jorgensen; significant other, Todd Jurgensen of 15 years and his son, Nick Jurgensen. Also sharing in her life were many nieces and nephews and one great nephew, Preston Jorgensen and other loving extended family members.
Amy was preceded in death by her father, Terry, grandparents, Frances (Sward) Baumberger, Norman Sward and Mike Baumberger, Mary Ellen and Earl (Buzz) Foster.
