Allan Hanson, age 62, of Garretson, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at his home near Garretson. Graveside services will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Beaver Valley Lutheran Cemetery, rural Valley Springs. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.
Allan was born on February 16, 1955, to Albin and Grace (Poel) Hanson in Sioux Falls. He grew up south of Garretson and graduated from Garretson High School in 1973. After high school, he worked at Montgomery Ward, Garretson Elevator, and O'Day Equipment. He later found his passion and began a career at Central States Fire Apparatus in Lyons, first in manufacturing and later in sales. He ended his career as a salesman for Heiman Fire Equipment in Sioux Falls. After semi retiring, he delivered fire trucks until his health forced his full retirement.
Al was a long time member of the Garretson Fire Department, and served as the department’s chief for two years. He enjoyed his antique tractors and meeting with friends and families. He loved telling good stories and jokes.
Grateful for having shared his life are his siblings: Elaine (Dennis) Lebar, Lakewood, Colorado, and Gary (Debra) Hanson, Jasper, Minnesota; nieces and nephew: Matthew Lebar, Kelli Schuldies, and Katie Hanson; two great-nieces; a great-nephew; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
